He was a native of Johnson County, a son of the late William Webster and Margaret Furches Morefield, a US Army Veteran of the Korean War, a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He worked thirty-eight years as a press operator for the Tomahawk newspaper. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Mountain City, TN. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-nine years, Pauline Proffitt Morefield, who died in 2009; three sisters, Naomi Wallace, Anna Mae Hackney and Helen Morefield, two brothers, Carroll and Charles Morefield. Jasper Thomas Morefield is survived by a sister Opal Dunn, Florida. Several nieces, nephews and cousins survive him; special friends Debbie and Doug King and a favorite pet Bo also survive. Funeral Service for Jasper Thomas Morefield will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 31, 2010, from the Johnson County Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Bentley and Mr. Jim Hutchinson officiating, Music will be by Joe Simcox. Pallbearers will be Doug King, Tom Icenhour, John L. Neatherly, Sam Cress, Larry Dunn, Randy Pardue, Tony Simcox, and Joshua Bentley. Honorary Pallbearers will be Adam Vanover, Harvey Brown, M.D. Simcox, Randy Arnold, Larry Taylor, Bill Morefield, Dr. James Shine, nurses and staff of Mountain City Care Center. Military Graveside Service and Interment will follow the funeral service at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. The Family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P. M. Tuesday prior to the service; friends may also call at the home of Debbie and Doug King, 1930 Crackers Neck Road, Mountain City, TN or at the home of Anita and David Bentley, 221 Hamby Lane, Mountain City TN, at any time. In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203 Vandilla Street, Mountain City, TN 37683. The Johnson County Funeral Home is serving the Morefield family.
