We are saddened to announce the passing of Jay Matherly, age 78, of Butler, Tennessee who passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2020 at his residence. Jay was born on December 19, 1941 In Johnson County, Tennessee to the late Dana Matherly and Ida Stout Matherly, He was a farmer who loved using his tractor, being a great neighbor who loved helping people, also hunting arrowheads and hunting. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a son Shane Matherly, and eight brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Eileen Howes Matherly of the home; his daughter Sheila and husband Shannon Shepherd, Mountain City, Tennessee; son; Eric “Gordy” Matherly, Butler, Tennessee; Sister Mae Pierce, Mohawk, Tennessee, brother Clarence Matherly, Elizabethton, Tennessee; six grandchildren: Grace, Reese, Jay, Kyman, Jackson, and Andrew. his good friend, Dave Johnson of Butler, Tennessee and several nephews and nieces also survive. A memorial graveside will be conducted on Saturday May 2, 2020 in the Butler Memorial Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Harvey White to officiate.
