"Jo" Meade

June 18, 1934 — May 20, 2014

Margaret "Jo" Josephine Meade, age 79, of 919 Medical Park Drive, Mountain City, TN passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2014 after a lengthy illness. She was born June 18, 1934 to Henry Clay and Nellie Raydell Neatherly Tester. Her family moved to Kingsport, TN and she graduated from Lynn View High School in 1952. She then married and traveled as a military wife for 20 years. The family settled in Mountain City after retirement. She was Nutritional Manager for the Johnson County High School for several years. Jo worked for 18 years as the head of the Dietary Department at Mountain City Health Care, a job which she performed with utmost dedication, love and skill. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mountain City, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Mary Lou Meade and beloved son, Mark Meade. Jo is survived by two sons: Dr. Michael Meade, San Francisco, California and USAF TSGT. (Ret.) Eric Meade, Seville, Spain. One grandson, Johnathan Meade of Mountain City, TN. and one great grandson, Collin Meade of Mountain City, TN. One brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Sherry Tester of Mountain City, TN. Several cousins, two nephews: Greg Meade, Mountain City, TN and Tim Tester, Bristol, Va. and two nieces: Debbie Light, Kingsport, TN and Bridget Wagner, Fernandina Beach, Fla. Also surviving is a very special friend, Lois Greer and Gerald Meade, the father of her sons of Mountain City, TN. The family is indebted and grateful to the friends, former co-workers and present staff at Mountain City Health Care who lovingly prepared Jo for her final journey to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203 Vandilla Street, Mountain City, TN 37683 or the Alzheimer's Association, 207 N Boone Street, Johnson City, TN 37604 It was Jo's wish that no formal services be held, but friends and family may gather at the graveside at Pleasant Grove Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 2014 for a simple "Going Home Celebration" to honor the beautiful life she so well-lived serving others.
