Joe William Mahala, age 86, of 418 Fairhaven Street, Mountain City, Tennessee passed away Monday, January 18, 2010 at his residence. He was the son of the late Dessie Mahala. Mr. Mahala was an honorably discharged U.S. Army Veteran having served during World War II. He was a farmer and also worked for Levi Strauss Company. He was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church in Mountain City, TN. Joe’s hobbies included walking and also playing Solitaire.  In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ancil Mahala, in 2003.

 

Survivors include: three sons: Gary Mahala, Tim Mahala, and Doug Mahala and wife Gina, all of Mountain City, TN; one sister: Josephine Snyder and husband Darrell of Zionville, NC; one granddaughter: Jessica Mahala Hunt and husband Jason of Jonesborough, TN; two grandsons: Dylan Mahala and Alex Mahala, both of Mountain City, TN; one great granddaughter Juliana Idabelle Hunt of Jonesborough, TN; two nieces: Evelyn and Lisa; and special friend Carl Eller of Mountain City, TN;

 

Funeral services for Joe Mahala will be held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 22, 2010 at First Freewill Baptist Church of Mountain City, TN with Rev. Frank Woods and Pastor Billy Poe Jones officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. prior to the service. Active pallbearers will be: Eric Hill, Steve Hipshire, Danny Jones, Jeff Johnson, Larry Mink and Carl Eller. Honorary pallbearers will be: Joe Osborne, R. L. Salmons, Raymond Mahala and Shelton Mahala. Military graveside and interment will be at ll:00 a.m., Saturday, January 23, 2010 in Sunset Memorial Park accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard.

 

The body of Mr. Mahala will lie in state from Wednesday afternoon until Friday at 3:00 p.m. for those who wish to come by and sign the register.
