Joe C. Shull, age 89, of 517 Mill Creek Road, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2005 at the Mountain City Care Center following a brief illness. He was born in Mountain City, Tennessee on June 30, 1916 to the late Roby and Addie Arnold Shull. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Ward Shull, who passed away on August 7, 1999, and one brother, John D. Shull. Joe was a 1935 graduate of Johnson County High School. Joe was a retired farmer and former owner and operator of Mill Creek Grocery. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, where he also served as Sunday School Superintendent and was a member of the choir. Joe was a member of the Neva Ruritan, Neva Volunteer Fire Department and served as Johnson County Road Commissioner for a number of years. Joe was a renowned storyteller and he enjoyed football and racing. Joe is survived by two sisters: Mary Lee Shoun of Springfield, VA and Jacquelin Mink and husband George of Portsmouth, VA; one brother, Earl Shull and wife Louise of Mountain City, TN; sister-in-law, Alma Worley of Mountain City, TN, several nieces and nephews and many, many dear friends. Funeral Services for Joe C. Shull will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, November 28, 2005 from the Pine Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Carl Swift and Rev. Jim Norman to officiate. Music will be under the direction of the Pine Grove Baptist Church Choir. Graveside Services and Interment will follow from the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be: Sam Cress, Steve Cornett, Terry Hodge, Chris Lang, Francis Scherier, Barry Watson, Richard Watson and Randy Wilson. Honorary Pallbearers are: Robert Cress, Pat Conville, AD Grindstaff, Terry Matheson, Junior Maze, J.W. Mink, Dale Phillips, Bill Shull, Bob Shull, John Shull, Terry Shull, Tom Shull, Dick Snyder, Jim Snyder, Johnny Sutphin, Bill Worley and Doug Hornsby and Staff of Mountain City Care Center. The family will receive friends from 1-2:20 p.m. on Monday, prior to the Services, at the Church. At other times, friends may call at the residence of Earl and Louise Shull, 126 Slimp Branch Road, Mountain City, Tennessee 37683 at anytime. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Neva Volunteer Fire Department, c/o Tom Shull, 3530 Roan Creek Road, Mountain City, Tennessee 37683.
