John Adkins

May 16, 1934 — April 27, 2015

John E. Adkins went to be with our lord on April 27, 2015 at the Signature Healthcare facility in Mountain City, TN due to a brief illness. He was born May 16, 1934 to late Dallas Adkins and Minnie Mae Griffith Adkins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers; Richard Adkins and George Adkins and two sisters; Ethel Seigler and Louise Prenail. He was born in Ashe County, NC and a member of Potter's House Church. He was also enlisted in the United States Army. He enjoyed fishing and picnics with his family. He previously lived at 1999 Forge Creek Road since 1991 with his daughter, Betty Anderson, who was also his caregiver. Survivors include: one daughter; Betty Anderson of Mountain City, TN; three sons; Wayne Adkins of Preston, MD, Bobby Adkins of Preston, MD, and Jimmy Adkins of Fort Mills, SC; seven grandchildren; Amy Stout of Mountain City, TN, Rachel Adkins of Preston, MD, Sarah Adkins of Preston, MD, Dan Anderson of Mountain City, TN, J.W. Adkins of Preston, MD, Josh Adkins of Fort Mills, SC, and Jamie Adkins of Fort Mills, SC; ten great grandchildren; Jamie Lee Stout, Bo Stout, Tristian Stout, William Stout, Dalton Anderson, Elijah Anderson, Gibby Anderson, John A. Adkins, Alanna Adkins, and Alaya Adkins; and his special friends The McCleary Family. Funeral services for John Adkins will be conducted Friday, May 1, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. from the Charlie B. Hux Memorial Chapel with Rev. Steven Spencer officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. prior to the service. Military Graveside services will follow the funeral services accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard from Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be: Dustin Rankins, George Mulvane, Estel Mulvane, Dan Anderson, Randy Elmore, and Jamie Stout. Honorary pallbearers are: Jimmy Adkins, Wayne Adkins, Bo Adkins, Dallas Adkins, Bill Caldwell, Dan Anderson, Josh Adkins, Jamie Adkins, and J.W. Adkins.
