John R. Coburn

Mr. John R. Coburn, age 64, of 196 Azalea, Blowing Rock, died Saturday afternoon, May 21, 2011, at his home. Mr. Coburn was born September 13, 1946 in Greenville, North Carolina, a son of the late Raleigh B. Coburn and Annabelle Coburn Grogan. He was the owner of Coburn Construction for over 30 years and owner of First Elevator Company for 11 years. Mr. Coburn was a member and musician of Westview Baptist Church and served in the United States Army. Mr. Coburn is survived by his wife, Edith Wilson Coburn of the home; one daughter, Wanda Gentry and husband Danny of Mebane; two sons, John R. Coburn, Jr. of Hillborough and Christopher Coburn of Mebane; one step-son, Lanny Joe Wilson of Mountain City; three granddaughters, Rebecca Langoski and husband Michael of Kentucky, Perri Shayne Lawrence and Mason "Macy" Lawrence, both of Mebane; one great-granddaughter, Emma Langoski of Kentucky; two step-grandsons, Austin Wilson and Sean Wilson; one sister, Virginia Taylor and husband Thomas "Bo" of Ramsur; two half-sisters, Linda Elliot and husband Thomas of Chapel Hill, and Marrianne Ivey Roberson and husband Donnie of Siler City; three aunts, Louise O'Mary, Bessie Lloyd, and Doris Harrell; three uncles, Wilber Heath, Fate Heath, and James Heath, and a special cousin, Paul Coburn. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one step-son, Ronnie Lee Wilson. Funeral services for Mr. John R. Coburn will be conducted Tuesday afternoon, May 24, 2011, at 3:00 o'clock, at Westview Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 2:00 until 3:00 o'clock. Officiating will be Pastor Zane Tester and Mr. Larry Whetstine. Burial will follow in Westview Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon, from 2:00 until 3:00 o'clock, at the church, prior to the service.
