John H. "Jack" Muse, age 82, of 239 Sunset Drive, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at the Watauga Medical Center, Boone, North Carolina, following an extended illness. He was born on June 29, 1922 in Prince Rupert British Columbia, Canada to the late William Thomas and Mary Alverda Greear Muse. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia Muse O'Dell; two brothers: Jim Muse and Joe Muse and two sisters: Mary Muse Mount and Marge Muse Brockman. Jack was Past Chairman, President and CEO of Farmers State Bank. He was also Past President of the Independent Bankers Association. Jack retired in July 2002 after 62 years in the banking industry. Jack had also been a State Farm Agent for 38 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was Past Chairman of Trustees and former Chairman of Deacons. Jack was a Merchant Marine Veteran and United States Army Veteran. He is survived by his wife, Trula Howard Muse of the home; one daughter, Catherine Lynne Muse of Mountain City, Tn; three sons and daughters-in-law: John Howard and Kaye Crowder Muse of Mountain City, Tn, Thomas Roby and Kathy Aytes Muse of Knoxville, Tn and Jim Barton and Terry Mosley Muse of Elizabethton, Tn; one son-in-law, James S. O'Dell; one sister, Myrtle Muse Mitchell, Knoxville, TN; six grandchildren: Elizabeth O'Dell and Mary Catherine O'Dell, both of Johnson City, Tn, Marilee Muse and Hallie Muse, both of Mountain City, Tn, John Muse and Katie Muse, both of Knoxville, Tn. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services for John H. "Jack" Muse will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 27, 2005 from the First Baptist Church, Mountain City, Tennessee with Rev. Tom Gatton, Rev. Norman Reece and Rev. Harry Wills to officiate. Graveside Services and Interment will follow Funeral Services from the Mountain View Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be: Ray Payne, Sam Adams, Joe Atwood, Jim Vincill, Bill McGuire, Sonny Stout, Tom Neaves and John Henry Muse II. Honorary Pallbearers are: Directors of Farmers State Bank, Lewis May Sr., Bill Moore, Wayne Shirley, Dr. Earl Eads, Dr. Matt Brown, Ray Pennington, Ed Bell, Earl Whaley, Ralph Crowder, Terry Jordan, Jerry Jordan, Basil Wolfe, The Young Men's Class of First Baptist Church of Mountain City and Nephews. The family will receive friends from 12-3:00 p.m. Friday, prior to Services, at the First Baptist Church. At other times, friends may call at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Farmers State Bank American Cancer Society Relay for Life Team, c/o Farmers State Bank, 100 W Main Street, Mountain City, Tennessee 37683 or the Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203 Vandilla Street, Mountain City, Tennessee 37683.
