John H. Mink, age 73, of 2267 Dug Hill Road, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2004 at the Watauga Medical Center following an extended illness. A native of Mountain City, he was born June 9, 1930 to the late David W. and Margaret Vaught Mink. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers; Kelly Mink and Ralph Mink and two sisters; Ethel Ledbetter and Vada Lethco. John was a former employee of the Johnson County School System where he was employed for 40 years and was a former School Bus Driver for the School System. He was a member of Locust Gap Freewill Baptist Church where he was also a Deacon. John was a United States Navy Veteran. He is survived by his wife; Jennie Lee Tester-Mink of the home, one daughter; Sharon Davis of Mountain City, two sisters; Ella Schipsi of Margate, New Jersey and Lucy Milhan of Mountain City, three brothers; RV Mink of Florida, David Mink of Elizabethton and Arley Mink of Mountain City and one granddaughter; Priscilla Davis of Mountain City. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services for John will be held at 8:00 p.m. Sunday, May 16, 2004 from the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ted Lewis and Rev. Shannon Courtner to officiate. Music under the direction of Rev. Ron Manuel and The Locust Gap Freewill Baptist Church Choir. Family will receive friends 6-8:00 p.m. prior to Services Sunday at the Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 17, 2004 from the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Ray Slemp to officiate. Active Pallbearers will be Jeff Wilcox, Melvin Humphrey, Barry Bishop, Harry Wills, Barton Fritts and Eugene Tester. Honorary Pallbearers are: Dr. John Whitlock, Hue Walker, Jim Timbs, Joe Mack Cress, Joe Sherwood, Dr. Mac of Cancer Society of Boone, North Carolina, All Associates/Employees of the Johnson County School System and Bill Gentry Bus Drivers Garage Employees and Maintaince Staff, Deacons of the Locust Gap Freewill Baptist Church and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203 Vandilla Street, Mountain City, Tennessee 37683. At other times, friends may call at the residence, 2267 Dug Hill Road, Mountain City, Tennessee. Family and Friends are asked to assemble at 9:45 a.m. Monday at the Cemetery for Services.
