Johnny “Duke” Lee Courtner, a beloved son, brother, and father, passed away on March 19, 2026.   Born on April 13, 1976, in Johnson City, Tennessee, to the late Robert Warren Courtner and to Anita Kay Cordell Courtner.  

A graduate of Johnson County High School, Class of 1991, Duke embodied the qualities of a dedicated and passionate individual. His passions were simple yet profound: he found joy in walking through the outdoors, letting the natural world soothe and inspire him. Music was a constant companion, echoing the rhythms of his soul, while time spent with his brother, who was not only family but also his closest friend, brought him immeasurable happiness.

Duke is  survived by his loving mother, Anita Kay Cordell Courtner, His son, Nathanael Courtner, His sister, Julie Marie Laws, His brother and best friend, Robert Courtner Jr., along with several cousins, nieces, and nephews; Aunts and Uncles, Pansy and Ronnie Laws and Eddie  and Lestie Courtner. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Warren Courtner, and cousins, Kevin Courtner and Travis Courtner. 

Johnny “Duke” Lee Courtner’s life, though cut short, was filled with meaningful connections, quiet joys, and steadfast love,  a gentle soul who touched many hearts along his journey.

 A graveside service will be conducted at  2 PM on Wednesday, March 25 at Dyson Grove Cemetery with Shannon Courtner to officiate.
