Mr. Jonathan "June" Canter, age 68, of 780 Canter Road, Trade, Tennessee passed away Sunday, April 13, 2008 at the Mountain City Care Center, Mountain City, Tennessee after an extended illness. He was born August 4, 1939 to the late Jonathan H. Canter and Fannie Bryant Canter. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by six sisters: Hattie Snyder, Cora Lee McFadden, Grace Wilson, Frances Pardue, Bessie Potter, and Flora Tester and five brothers: George Bryant, Millard Canter, Stacy Canter, Earl Canter and Flavil Canter. He was a member of the Centerview Church of Christ.
Mr. Canter was an avid hunter and also enjoyed hunting ginseng.
Survivors include two sisters, Dorothy "Flo" Mains and husband Ralph of Mtn City, Tennessee, and Pauline Reedy also of Mtn City, Tennessee. He also leaves behind an aunt, Faye Church, of Mountain City, Tennessee as well as special friends Sonny and Marie Porter and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Jonathan "June" Canter will be conducted Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel at Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Rev. Bart Winegar officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mitchell Hampton and Nelisha Hampton. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. prior to the services. Graveside service and interment will be Thursday, April 17, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. from the Arnold Cemetery in Trade, Tennessee. Everyone is asked to assemble at Hux-Lipford Funeral Home by 12:00 p.m. to go in procession to Arnold Cemetery. Pallbearers will be friends and family. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Triplette, Thomas Lowe, Tolby Lowe, and Sonny Porter.
At other times, friends may call at the residence of his sisters, Dorothy "Flo" Mains, 237 Eller Road, Mountain City, Tennessee or Pauline Reedy, 104 Rine Street, Mountain City, Tennessee.
