Joseph Lewis Sexton, Sr., age 71, of 320 Eastridge Lane, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away Sunday, June 13, 2004 at the Indian Path Medical Center, Kingsport, Tennessee. A native of Bluefield, West Virginia, he was born August 24, 1932 to the late Famos Jack and Bessie Hendrix Sexton. Joseph was a truck driver and mechanic. He was a member of the First District Volunteer Fire Department and a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a big fan of Atlanta Braves Baseball and enjoyed taking nature walks. Joseph is survived by one daughter, Barbara Lynn Dunn and husband Paul of Mountain City; four sons, Joseph L. Sexton Jr. of Elizabethton, Jerry Dean Sexton of Mountain City, Michael Paul Sexton of Peachbottom, Pennsylvania and Bobby Joe Winters of Mountain City; one sister, Betty Hawks of Shady Valley; one grandson, Joseph Paul "Joey" Sexton, four granddaughters, Alisha Sexton, Beth Pennington, Brittany Townsend and Bessie Dugger and husband Tim, four great grandchildren, Timothy, Jason and Kelly Dugger and Jason Teague and special nieces and nephew, Sharron Henry and James Hawks. Funeral Services for Joseph will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2004 from the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. Graveside Services and Interment will follow from the Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be: Ralph Eastridge, Terry Reid, Dennis Rudy, Wayne Taylor, Glen Davis, Tommy Owens and Dale Owens. Honorary Pallbearers are the Members of the First District Volunteer Fire Department. Family will receive friends 7-9:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2004 from the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home Chapel. At other times, friends may call at the residence, 320 Eastridge Lane, Mountain City, Tennessee and/or at the residence of the sons', 1459 Bristol Hwy, Elizabethton, Tennessee.
