Josephine M. Arnold, age 87, of Elizabethton, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2026 at her residence. She was born August 21, 1938 to the late Thomas and Florence Mahala. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a grandson, Jamie Arnold, sisters, Marie Brooks, Bernice Ward, Anis Mains, Mary Magdelene Dunn, and brothers Jerry Mahala and Richard Mahala.
On November 22, 1954, Jo married the love of her life, Earl Arnold. Together Jo and Earl had 3 wonderful children, James, Mary and Screna.
Jo had a love for Jesus and her family. John 4:8 "Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love". Jo lived by this everyday of her life. Everything God did was motivated by love. Like God everything Jo did was always motivated by love.
Jo was known for many things such as her soup beans and cornbread. Jo was also known for her famous yard sales. Everyone came to Jo's yard sales, nothing in the house was safe. Jo enjoyed many things in her life. She loved reading her bible, canning, sewing and most importantly her family. To know Jo was to know love and Jesus. She always made everyone feel loved and to know her Jesus. No one will ever be like Jo.
Jo is survived by her husband of 71 years, Earl Arnold; son, James (Patty) Arnold; daughters, Mary Cornett and Screna Arnold; grandchildren, Brandy (Chuck) Bennett and Chris Arnold; great grandchildren, Alexis and Maddox Bennett, Ella, Brooks, Carson Arnold; brothers in law and several nieces and nephews and sister Linda (Ron) Ault. Heaven gained a true angel.
A funeral service for Jo will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 27, 2026 at Hux & Lipford Funeral Home with Rick Thomason to officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service. A graveside service will immediately follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
