Junior Arnold, age 79, of 2656 Crackers Neck Road, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at the Watauga Medical Center in Boone, North Carolina, following an extended illness. He was born in Pennington Gap, Virginia on December 6, 1924 to the late William Otis Arnold and Dottie Grace Walker Arnold. In addition to his parents, Junior was preceded in death by one sister, Marie Morefield. He was retired from the TVA. Junior was a member of the Vaughts Gap Baptist Church where he also served as Deacon and Chairman of the Deacon Board. He enjoyed working in his garden. Junior was an Army Veteran having served in World War II. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bertha Ree Proffitt Arnold, of the home; two daughters, Elizabeth Doris Pratt and husband Bob and Peggy Tester and husband Jim; two sisters, Ida Mae Mains and Margaret Arnold; five grandchildren, Howard Stout, Mike Stout, Jennie Tester, Jeff Tester and Todd Tester; three great grandchildren, Dustin Tester, Cailie Tester and Blake Tester, all of Mountain City. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services for Junior will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 1, 2004 from the Vaughts Gap Baptist Church with Rev. Frank Johnson to officiate. Music will be under the direction of Jean Walker. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Friday, prior to Services, at the Church. Military Graveside Services and Interment will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 2, 2004 from the Pleasant Grove Cemetery and will be accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Active Pallbearers will be: Howard Stout, Michael Stout, Dennis Tester, Dustin Tester, Jeff Tester and Todd Tester. Honorary Pallbearers are the Deacons of Vaught Gap Baptist Church. At other times, friends may call at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203 Vandilla Street, Mountain City, Tennessee 37683. Family, Pallbearers and Friends are asked to assemble at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery for Services.
