Kenneth L. Gernentz, age 70, of 174 Harbin Drive, Mountain City, TN, passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2005 at the Johnson County Health Center following a brief illness. A native of Odell, Illinois, he was born February 24, 1935 to the late Walter and Margaret Kelly Gernentz. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Ruth Davis, Helen White, and Bernice Mund; six brothers: Lester, Bud, Harold, Gerald, Donald, and Earl Gernentz. Mr. Gernentz was a United States Army Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict and also served as a Warehouse Forman for the Department of the Army. He was a member of the Braddock Hills Wesleyan Church, in Annandale, Va., but attended the Hammons Chapel Christian Church, in Mountain City. He was a member of the American Legion Post #61 and loved fishing. Kenneth was very proud to be a member and loved serving the Johnson County Honor Guard which he felt was one of Johnson County's greatest organizations. Surviving is his wife of 47 years, Jolene Wilfong, Gernentz, of the home; several nieces and nephews, and one special buddy, Cody. Funeral Services for Kenneth L. Gernentz will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14, 2005, from the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Mr. Mike Smith to officiate. Music will be under the direction of the Hammons Chapel Christian Church Choir. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8:00 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home or friends may call at the residence at anytime. Military Grave Rites will be conducted by the Johnson County Honor Guard at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 15, 2005, at the Dunn Memorial Park (Forge Creek Community). Pallbearers will be members of the Johnson County Honor Guard. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jason and Jeremy Dunn, Al Hays, Adam, Patrick, and Sam Wilfong, and Shelby Engle. Family, Pallbearers and Friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 9:45 a.m. on Thursday for graveside services. Flowers are appreciated, or memorial contributions may be made to the Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203 Vandilla Street, Mountain City, TN 37683.
