Larry G. Blevins, age 55, of 631 Willens Gap Road, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away Saturday, May 1, 2004. A native of Dublin, Virginia, he was born May 17, 1948 to the late Garland and Eugenia Dunovan Blevins. Larry was a 1967 Graduate of Dublin High School and was retired from General Motors. He was a former pastor of Old Fashioned Baptist Church of Flint, Michigan. He was known as "Daddy-O" at First Freewill Baptist Church where he taught the Women's Sunday School Class and drove the Church Van. He loved the Virginia Tech Hokies Football Team and the Cincinnati Reds Baseball Team. Larry enjoyed reading and studying his Bible. He was a Vietnam Veteran having served in the United States Army. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn Lovern Blevins who passed away in May 1998 and friend Jewell Blakenship who was killed in action during Vietnam and who had also saved Larry's life during war. Larry is survived by two sons; Tim Blevins and wife Pam of Creston, North Carolina and Kerry Blevins of San Diego, California, step-mother; Leona Blevins of Dublin, Virginia, two brothers; Baxter Blevins of Dublin, Virginia and Kenneth Blevins of Fairlawn, Virginia, two grandchildren; Aaron Blevins of San Diego, California and Isaiah Blevins of Creston, North Carolina, special friend Joe Woolwine of Roanoke, Virginia and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services for Larry will be held at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2004 from the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Frank Woods and Rev. Spencer Roark to officiate. Family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. prior to Services. Military Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 2004 from the Sunset Memorial Park and will be accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Active Pallbearers will be: Ed Roark, James Patrick, Tracy Blevins, Randy Odell, Joe Woolwine and Mike Fritts. Honorary Pallbearers are: Henry Blue, Dan Smith, Rich Tyree, Chris Gilliam and Art Stark.
