Larry Sluder, age 65, of Fairground Lane, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2021 at his residence. He was born March 26, 1956 in Ashe County, a son of Nell Price Sluder and the late Ernest Sluder. He enjoyed driving and showing his hot rod antique cars with winning several trophies. He loved camping and always wanted to build a big campfire. Larry was a talented mechanic and could answer any question, especially about a ford. He was a retired electrician, loved children and they loved him. His true love was his wife Wid and they enjoyed everything together. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Willa "Wid" Lawrence Sluder of Mountain City; one sister, Christina Taylor and husband Robert of Sandy Springs, Georgia; one step-son, Jeff Beach and wife Breanne of Zionville; two sisters-in-law, Hilda Matheson and husband Ronnie of Mountain City, and Diane Wood and husband Marty of Zionville; two nephews, Mark Taylor, Chad Matheson and wife Amanda, one niece, Deray Wood, two great nieces, Katie and Julie Matheson, special great niece, Presli Wood, special great nephew, Abel Wood, special little neighbors, Ella Grace Phillips, Gage Grissom and Scotty Orndorff. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his step-father, Fred Sluder and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clayton and Mary Belle Lawrence. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 12:00 o'clock at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend David Lunceford will officiate. Interment will follow in Union Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 12:00, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Sluder family, c/o Willa Sluder, 239 Fairground Lane, Mountain City, Tennessee 37683.
