Larry met our mother when he was 26.  She was divorced with 4 children and would not be able to have any further children. He adopted the two youngest, Nikki and Doug.  The two older boys, Lee and Kurt, were in their teen years and weren't sure about being adopted at their age,  yet he loved all of us equally.  Later in years he and Mom did an unofficial adoption of their niece Laurel.

Larry was a veteran of the US Army, rising to the rank of Captain while stationed in Germany.

Following his discharge from the military, Larry had top clearance with the government and worked on many interesting projects that we'll never be able to hear about.  But he loved the job he performed at Lockheed. 

Larry retired to Mountain City, TN where he met wonderfull friends.  He was a past Vice-President of the Johnson County Humane Society, a lifetime member and former Finance Officer of American Legion Post 61, and valued member of the Johnson County Honor Guard, often leading the rifle squad during military funeral honors.

Larry was forced from his home of 20 years, losing his house, personal belongings and all vehicles due to major flooding from Hurricane Helene.  His daughter Niki retrieved him, bringing him home to her house in Bella Vista, AR, to live with her and her husband.  Jeff and Larry admired each other very much and could sit and talk about airplanes for extended periods of time.

Larry is survived by his son Lee Smith, daughter Niki Moralez, son Doug Seybold, niece Laurel Fritzsche, eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one great-niece, all of whom adored their "pawpaw". 

Larry was buried beside his beloved Doris at Restland Cemetery in Dallas, TX on July 30, 2026.  Arrangements were entrusted to Restland Funeral Home of Dallas.
