Lela Marie Carroll

Lela Marie Carroll, age 75, of 600 McQueen Gap Road, Shady Valley, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at Baptist Hospital, Winston Salem, North Carolina following a lengthy illness. A native of Johnson County, Tennessee, she was born on May 23, 1929 to the late Tom and Florence Rutter Mahala. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur James Brooks and one brother, Richard Mahala. Lela enjoyed sewing and quilting. She was a member of the Shady Valley Church of Christ and was loved by all who knew her. Lela is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda M. and Wayne Eskridge of Shady Valley, Tennessee; one son and daughter-in-law, Rocky L. and Angie Brooks of Abingdon, Virginia; five sisters: Mary Dunn of Erwin, Tennessee; Josephine Arnold, Bernice Ward, both of Mountain City, Tennessee, Annis Main of Shady Valley, Tennessee and Linda Ault of Oklahoma; one brother, Jerry Mahala of Mountain City, Tennessee and five grandchildren: Samuel James Brooks, Amanda LeAnn Brooks, Olivia Jenkins, Michael Brandon Brooks and Ashley Jenkins. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside Services for Lela Marie Carroll will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2005 from the Blevins Cemetery, Shady Valley, Tennessee, with Mr. Jim Sherman to officiate.
