Lena Kate Walker

Ms. Lena Kate Walker, age 74, of 272 Reece Hill Road, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, June 08, 2004 at her residence following an extended illness. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Burl, Wilburn, J.R. and J.C. Morefield and three sisters, Verna Mae Greer, Crete Proffitt and Nina Morefield. A native of Johnson County, she was born October 27, 1929 to the late William Floyd and Lona Belle Forrester Morefield. Lena was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting. She was a member of Locust Gap First Freewill Baptist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of the church. Lena is survived by her husband of 56 years, Hugh E. Walker; five daughters, Carole Perkins, Dorothy Brewer, Debra Brown, Ramona Shatley, all of Mountain City, and Donna Cooper of Johnson City; two sons, Wayne Walker and Bill Walker, both of Mountain City; thirteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services for Lena will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 2004 from the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Ted Lewis, Mr. Darrell Bailey, Mr. Shannon Courtner and Mr. Roy Cooper to officiate. Graveside Services and Interment will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2004 from the Locust Gap/Gambill Springs Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Jeff Wilcox, Jeff Lipford, Johnny Guinn, Charles Shipley, Michael Trivette, Chris Johnson, Travis Johnson and Bob Garland. Honorary Pallbearers are: The Johnson County Rescue Squad and Dr. Buddy Clayton. Family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Thursday, prior to services at the Funeral Home Chapel. At other times, friends may call at the residence. Family and Friends are asked to assemble at 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Funeral Home to go in procession to the Cemetery.
