Lenna Walker Flora

Lenna Walker Flora (born Lenna Frances Walker), 64, of Apex NC, passed away at her home on Thursday 26 May 2011 after an extended fight with ovarian cancer. A native of Shady Valley TN, she was the daughter of the late Charles Russell Walker and Nye Walker. Lenna is survived by her adoring husband of 28 years Dale Flora of Apex NC; daughter Laura Seastrum and husband Bill; son C. Christian Speer and wife Kate; step sons Kirk Flora and wife Tara, and Kane Flora and wife Amy; brothers Delos Walker and wife Rachel, and NJ Walker and wife Joyce; nieces Sherry Wheeler and husband Ben, Dawne Minks and husband Lynn, and Connie Smith and husband Rick; nephews Tim Walker, and Tommy Walker; brother in law Brian Flora and wife Kay Kuhlman; sisters in law Sandy Rogers and husband Rick, and Michelle Moore; eight grandchildren on Dale's side of the family; and numerous cousins. Lenna was a proud southern woman with immense faith in the Lord, from which she derived uncommon strength and kindness. Her life was punctuated with what she called "Divine Fingerprints". These little touches from God led her safely from a building just before it collapsed in Chad, protected her from the terrorist attacks when she was in the pentagon on 9/11, and shepherded her to Olive Chapel Baptist Church which became such an important part of her life. Lenna left her own beautiful fingerprints on the world. From her beloved Shady Valley, to many parts of the US, Europe and Africa, she was known for her loving smile, warm hospitality, and mastery of the kitchen with recipes sought by all. She dealt with even the most difficult challenges of life with unparalleled grace, dignity and strength, all along demonstrating deep appreciation for even the smallest blessings. Her many dear friends and family morn her passing deeply but rejoice that she is whole again and with the Lord. The family will receive friends at the Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams Street Apex, NC 27502 on Friday 3 June from 6:00 pm - 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Olive Chapel Baptist Church, 600 New Hill Olive Chapel Road, Apex, NC 27502 at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday 4 June. A grave-side service and burial will be conducted at Shady Valley Memorial Gardens, Hwy 421, Shady Valley TN at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday 5 June. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions for ovarian cancer research be made to the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, CB #7295, UNC-CH, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-7295.
