Lester Hughes Roten

Lester H. Roten, age 94 of 186 Fairview Avenue, Mountain City, TN passed away Friday, February 3, 2012 at the Veteran Administration Medical Center, Mountain Home, TN. Mr. Roten was born March 4, 1917 in Creston, NC to the late Roy Roten and Jeston Stanley Roten. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Roark Roten and several brothers and sisters. Mr. Roten was a retired carpenter and brick mason. He was a United States Army veteran having served in World War II. He was a member of the South Side Freewill Baptist Church of Mountain City, TN. He is survived by one daughter, Helen Hagler of Mountain City, TN. One sister, Lois Hodges of Boone, NC. Two grandchildren: Randall Hagler of Mountain City, TN and Ava Hagler of Roanoke, VA. Six great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild also survive. Funeral services for Lester H. Roten will be conducted at 1:00 p.m.,Wednesday, February 8, 2012 in the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Shepherd officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers are Archie Roten, Bud Townsend, Raymond Arnold,Fred Roten, Gary Hagler and Randall Hagler. Graveside services and military honors will follow the funeral service in the Mountain View Cemetery, 1019 East Valley Drive, Bristol, VA 24201 with military honors accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard.
