Ms Mabel A. Neatherly Wagner, age 86, of 603 Maple Road, Mountain City, Tennessee,  passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family and went home to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday evening May 12, 2009, after a very brief stay at the Hospice Home of High Point in High Point North Carolina. Ms Wagner was the daughter of the late Leeland Lester Neatherly and Myrtle Green Neatherly.

 

Ms Wagner was a native of Johnson County and had lived in Aberdeen, Washington and High Point, North Carolina in earlier years. She worked in the furniture industry, textiles and retired from Levi’s in Mountain City, Tennessee in 1985. As a charter member of Vaughts Gap Baptist Church she taught Sunday school, worked as the Church Clerk and in Vacation Bible School. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking, and crocheting for her family. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles.

 

In additions to parents Ms Wagner was preceded in death by two sisters: Nell Miller and Ruth Neatherly (who died at age 3) along with two brothers: Dean Neatherly and Roy Neatherly.

 

Survivors include her husband of 68 years Claude E. Wagner of the home, three daughters: Nancy Lewis and husband Ivan of High Point, NC, Brenda Putman and husband A.G. of Sophia, NC and Wanda Cox and husband Chris of High Point, NC; one son: Larry Wagner and wife Fran of High Point, NC, one sister: Grace Neatherly of Mountain City, TN. Eight grandchildren: Sandra Putman, Alan Putman, Tammy Lewis, Jason Lewis, Mark Wagner, Angie Burney, Jonathan Manring and Wrenn Cox. Eleven great-grand children: Abbi Thomas, Caitlin Thomas, Emma Manring, Grace Manring, Bailey Wagner, Sidney Wagner, Garrett Putman, Wayne Lewis, Jaiden Lewis, Kelsi Heilig and Janae Deslanders. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

 

The funeral service for Ms Wagner will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 15, 2009 at the Vaughts Gap Baptist Church with Rev, Tim Bunten and Rev. Frank Johnson to officiate. Active Pallbearers will be Jason Lewis, Jonathan Manring, Mark Wagner, Wrenn Cox, Alan Putman and Steve Rhymer. Honorary Pallbearers are Ed Humphrey, Leon Bryant, Josh Bryant, Estel “Sid” Mains, Edward Stansberry and Dean Stout.  

Graveside service and interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m., prior to the service Friday May 15, 2009 at the Vaughts Gap Baptist Church.
