Mae R. Grindstaff, age 77, of 1294 Priddy Road, King, North Carolina and formerly of 815 Circle Drive, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday May 7, 2005 at the Lutheran Nursing Home, Winston Salem, North Carolina, following a lengthy illness. A native of Doeville, Tennessee, Mae was born April 18, 1928 to the late Edward G. and Bertha Mae Robinson Rainbolt. In addition to her parents, Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph C. "Stoney" Grindstaff; one infant son; one infant daughter; one sister, Grace Stout and one brother, Park Rainbolt. Mae was a graduate of Johnson County High School and had also graduated Steed Business College of Johnson City, Tennessee. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mountain City, where she was a former Sunday School Teacher, Childrens Church Leader and was also a member of the Women's Missionary Union. Mae is survived by one daughter, Amy Miller and husband John of Winston Salem, North Carolina; one sister Beuna Lee Hawks and husband Coy of Butler, Tennessee; one step grandson, Chris Miller of Winston Salem, North Carolina; thirteen nieces and nephews and special friend Emily Millsaps. Funeral Services for Mae will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2005 from the First Baptist Church with Rev. Norman Reece to officiate. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Coy Hawks. Graveside Services and Interment will follow from the Sunset Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers will be: Joe Herman, Mike Atwood, Harry Wills, Robert Wills, Joe Paisley, Jonathan Miller, Ken Tolliver and Doug Woodard. Honorary Pallbearers: I.G. Hodge. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2004 at the Hux-Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel. Friends may also call at the residence of Beuna and Coy Hawks, 13325 Hwy 67 W, Butler, Tennessee 37640. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mae R. Grindstaff Memorial Fund, c/o of Elizabethton Federal Bank, 317 West Main Street, Mountain City, Tennessee 37683.
