Mae B. South, age 86, of 148 Chestnut Drive passed away Saturday, January 30, 2016 at her residence. She was born July 23, 1929 to the later Elzie J. Brown and Ethel Payne Brown. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Bruce South and four brothers: Albert Brown, Burl Brown, John Brown, and Baby E.J. Brown, Jr. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, canning, crocheting, working in her flowers, and playing piano.

Survivors include: two daughters: Linda Carol Allison and husband Dan of Charlotte, N.C., and Brenda Sue Tester of Mountain City, TN, one sister, Faye Greer of Mountain City, TN, one brother, Howard Brown and wife Bessie of Mountain City, TN, and special friend Ruth Issacs. Six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 3, 2016 from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel with Rev. Homer Vanover and Rev. Frank Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Graveside service will follow from Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be: Charlie Brown, Jim Furches, Bobby Kimble, Josh Vaught, Jared Kimble, Charlie Osborne, and Cody Osborne. Honorary pallbearers are Dennis Clawson, Dan Allison, Scotty Hood, Dr. John Whitlock, and the staff at Watauga Internal Medicine.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Amedisys Hospice.
