Margaret R. Dillon

February 8, 1913 — August 23, 2009

Mrs. Margaret R. Dillon, formerly of Mountain City, Tennessee passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2009 at her residence in Rogersville, Tennessee. After living in the Doe Valley community for over fifty years, Mrs. Dillon moved to Rogersville, Tennessee in 2006 to live with her sister, Mary Kensinger.

 

Mrs. Dillon was a member of First Baptist Church of Mountain City, Daughters of the American Revolution-Mountain City Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Wednesday Music Club and the Doe Valley Family Community Education Club.

 

She studied at Johnson City Business College and at East Tennessee Teachers College in Johnson City where she received her teacher’s certificate. Mrs. Dillon worked for thirty-nine years in local businesses as a bookkeeper and as an office manager.

 

Mrs. Dillon was an avid bridge player and enjoyed reading, needlework and college football. She was also an accomplished pianist garnering two gold medals in competition in her early years of music study. She played for many weddings and funerals in Mountain City and was the oldest member of the Wednesday Music Club.

 

Preceding Mrs. Dillon in death were her husband of forty-eight years, Mr. Ben H. Dillon; her parents, Joseph Todd and Bessie Trivette Ray, and her brother, Boyd S. Ray.

 

She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Mary R. Kensinger, of Rogersville, TN; nieces: Mrs. Suzanne R. Cox (Larry) of Abingdon, VA; Mrs. Elizabeth R. Talton (Marshall) of Virginia Beach, VA; and Alice Dillon Weaver (Wayne) of Cleveland, NC; nephews: Dr. Joseph A. Ray (Debbie) of Mountain City, TN; John Rogers (Reba) of Franklin, NC; Donald Rogers (Laura) of Clayton, NC; and Dillon Wilson of Durham, NC.

 

The family would like to thank Mrs. Dillon’s caregivers, Junior and Charlotte Caldwell, of Rogersville, TN.

 

At Mrs. Dillon’s request there will be no funeral service. The family would like to receive friends on Sunday, August 30, 2009 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. in the Eastside Memory Chapel of Hux-Lipford Funeral Home in Mountain City, TN.
