He was born March 18, 1955, to the late Sgt. James Earl Slemp and Ann Shoun. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Frank and Bessie Shelton; his paternal grandparents, Johnny and Maude Slemp. He was an Army veteran and enjoyed fishing. In addition to his mother, he is survived by one son: Tony Slemp of Lenoir, NC.; one sister, Elizabeth Dollar of Laurel Bloomery, Tn.; a special niece, Reagan Click; several cousins, uncles and aunts. Funeral services for Mark James Slemp will be conducted 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2007 from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home, with Rev. Bruce Simcox officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, prior to the services. Burial with military honors will be Thursday, April 19, 200, at 10:00 a.m. at Phillippi Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Boyd Lipford, Buford Lipford, Josh Dollar, Matt Roush, Larry Dunn, and Robert Dunn.
