Mary Nell Woods Blevins, age 81, of Grassy Creek went home to be with The Lord on Monday, March 8, 2021 at her home surrounded by family and friends. Mary Nell was born on February 7, 1940 to Henry and Ida Woods. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James Lester Blevins, son James Robert Blevins, brothers John Woods, Earl Woods, Lee Roy Woods, sisters Maude Calhoun, Judy Blevins, Willa Dean Calhoun, and infant sister Eula Mae Woods. Ms. Blevins is survived by Three sons, Jerry Blevins of Grassy Creek, Johnnie Blevins of Jefferson, and Jeff Blevins and wife Lisa of Mouth of Wilson, Va., Three daughters, Jo Ann Osborne of the home, Janet Clarke and Husband Michael of West Jefferson, Jennifer Brown and Husband James of Mountain City, Tn. 3 Brothers Charles “Cotton” Woods of Maryland, Jim Woods of Tennessee, Frank Woods of Tennessee, 1 Sister Elsie “Sally” Barr of West Jefferson, 14 Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great, Great Grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. Ms. Blevins became a young widow at the age of 29 with 6 small children and later retired from Sara Lee. She loved cooking, canning, making biscuits, picking berries, or anything that involved feeding her family. You never left her home with an empty stomach and knowing how much she loved you. No matter what she was doing you could hear her humming her favorite hymns. She had a desire to serve The Lord by attending revivals, singings, and services anywhere a soul could be saved. Her love for Him and her family shown in everything she did. Her life was a walking testimony for all of those who knew her. She was full of grace, love and humility. Her words of wisdom always came at the exact moment someone needed it. The love she had in her heart and the prayers she prayed will carry on for generations to come. She left an example that we should all live up to. The testimony she left gives us all an eternal hope far beyond this world. The grace The Lord gave her as she made her journey Home was a special blessing to her family and a testament to the life she lived. The beautiful smile she had on her face as she crossed over will carry us through until we see her again. Funeral services will be at Mouth of Wilson Baptist Church Thursday, March 11, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Frank Woods, Brother Mitchell Mash, Brother Cody Blair, and Brother Jeff Blevins officiating. The family will receive friends while she lies in state at her home Tuesday and Wednesday prior to the viewing Wednesday, March 10, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow the service, in Howell Hill Cemetery.
