Mary Alice Dowell

Mary Alice Dowell, age 60, passed away Saturday, November 1, 2025 at her residence. She was born April 3, 1965 to the late Lloyd James Sluder Jr. and Bessie Stanley Sluder. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Dowell and sister, Donna McQueen.

Mary loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her family was the treasure of her life.  She loved cooking and sitting out on the porch watching birds, traveling, or just sitting at home watching lifetime movies.  

She is survived by her daughters, Nicole Dowell of Johnson City, Tennessee, and Kimberly Durgin (Micah) of Mountain City, Tennessee. Her sons, Gary Dowell (Katelyn) of Jonesborough, Tennessee, and Brian Dowell (Sam) of Butler, Tennessee; sisters, Wanda Floyd and Sandra Bitter, both of Mountain City, Tennesse; grandchildren, Eros and Mayson Durgin, Olivia Dowell, Brooke, Maddie, Sophia, and Emma Dowell, Weston Dowell, Katelyn Winters, and Hunter Dowell; several nieces and nephews, and special friends, Roberta Walls and Kay Roach. 

A funeral service for Mary will be conducted at 12:00 PM on Thursday, November 6, 2025 at Hux & Lipford Funeral Home.  The family will receive freinds from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM prior to the funeral service.  A graveside service will follow in the Taylor Cemetery.
