Mary Alice Norris

Mary Alice Norris, age 83, of Mountain City, went to be with the Lord on April 13, 2024. She was born September 13, 1940 to the late John B. Snyder and Lee Wolfe Snyder. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Norris: brother, Freddie Snyder and nephew in law, Jeff Shaw. Mary Alice was a 1958 graduate of Johnson County High School. Mary Alice worked many years at Sanco Drug Store as well as Rite Aid, where she retired. Not being one to stay at home, Mary Alice went to work at the Johnson County Senior Citizens Center, where she worked as long as her health allowed. She was always up for a trip----anywhere, and went on several fun trips with the center. Mary Alice was a faithful member of Roan Creek Baptist Church. She loved her church family and the children in her 3rd and 4th Grade Sunday School Class. She taught and helped with Bible School for many years, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She was a member of Beta Theta Club and a proud 50 plus year member of Maple Chapter #79 Order of the Eastern Star. Those left to cherish her memory include her niece, Sheila Shaw; niece Kim Overman; nephew, Joe Snyder and great nephews, Lucas Snyder, Jackson Snyder, Eli Snyder and Trevor Overman; sister n law, Brenda Snyder and special friends, Michael and Kathy Eller. Funeral services for Mary Alice Norris will be conducted on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at 7 pm in the Charles B. Hux Chapel at Hux & Lipford Funeral Home with David Hankel officiating. The Order of the Eastern Star Service will immediately follow. The family will receive friends from 5 pm - 7 pm prior to the funeral service. Graveside service will be Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at 10 am in Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton, TN. Everyone is asked to assemble at the cemetery at 9:45 am. Pallbearers will be Joe Snyder, Michael Eller, Brian Eller, Trent Snyder, Joey Phillips, Silas Phillips and Sawyer Phillips. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Henson, Gary Henson, Jim Hensley, Tom Nelson, Bob Heck, Junior Eastridge and Bob Eller. The family respectfully requests no food. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Johnson County Senior Citizens Center. The family would also like to thank the staff of Mountain City Care and Rehabilitation Center for the loving care provided to Aunt Mary during her stay there. To Brianna and Holly, we love you.
