Mary Lee Roark, age 73, of 392 Grindstaff Road, Butler, TN, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2006, at the Lifecare Center of Elizabethton, TN. A native of Johnson County, she was born April 8, 1933, to the late Norman and Goldie (McNeil) Smith. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Trudy; two sisters, Sylvia Fritts and Isabelle Norris; and one brother, Eliza "Bud" Ray Smith. She was a homemaker who loved gardening. She attended Sink Valley Baptist Church. Survivors include: One son, George Roark and special friend, Susie Malcom, Butler, TN; one sister, Nell Syndargard and husband Jim, Butler, TN; three brothers: William "Bill" Smith and wife Maryann, Butler, TN; Richard Smith and special friend Wilma, Butler, TN; and Jack Smith, Hampton, TN; two granddaughters: Renea Roark and special friend Chris Stanbery, Boone, NC; and Jeanette Roark, Charlotte, NC; two great-grandchildren: Kirstin and Dalton Stanbery; one special friend, William Max Roark, Mountain City, TN; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services for Mary Lee Roark will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3. 2006, from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Rev. Spencer Roark and Rev. Harvey White to officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the funeral service. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 4, from the Smith Cemetery in the Sink Valley Community. Family and Friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 10:45 a.m. for services. Pallbearers will be: Chris Stanbery, Matthew Syndargard, Dustin Ankrom, and Malachi Cantor.
