Maurice E. "Cherry" Farris, age 89, of 310 B. North Church Street passed away Saturday, February 07, 2004 at the Pine Ridge Care Center, Elizabethton, Tennessee following an extended illness. A native of Mountain City, Tennessee, he was born November 04, 1914 to the late M.E. and Nora Guthrie Farris Sr. Maurice was a graduate of the Johnson County High School, a member of the Taylorsville Masonic Lodge #243 F & M, a former employee of the State of Tennessee, a retired farmer and a World War II Veteran having served in the US Army-Air Corp. He enjoyed woodworking and was of the Methodist faith. Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mariam Raye Harless Farris, who passed away April 14, 2003, five sisters; Anne Farris Smythe, Pauline Farris, Louise Farris Adams, Mary Ruth Farris and Katherine Faye Farris. He is survived by two nephews; Michael A. Adams of Kingsport, Tennessee and Robert M. Adams of Richmond, Kentucky. Committal Services for Maurice E. "Cherry" Farris will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2004 from the Chapel of the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home. Family will receive friends 10-11:00 a.m. prior to services.
