Maxine Walsh

Maxine Leffman Walsh, age 83, passed away peacefully in her sleep Saturday morning, July 28, 2007. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Ruby Rash Leffman, and her husband Alfred Walsh. She was born at War, West Virginia where she spent her early childhood years. In 1932 the family moved to Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee where she lived until the end of World War II. She then married and moved to Kingsport, Tennessee where she resided for the next forty years. In 1986 she and her husband moved back to Laurel Bloomery where she was residing at the time of her death. Maxine graduated in the Class of 1942 from the Rock School, Damascus, Virginia and from Elizabethton School of Business, Elizabethton, Tennessee. During World War II she was employed as Price Clerk for the Office of Price Administration at Mountain City, Tennessee. Maxine is a member of St. John?s United Methodist Church at Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee. In her early years she joined Bloomery Methodist Church South at Laurel Bloomery and remained there until she moved to Kingsport. She was a former member of Clinton Presbyterian Church, Mountain City, Tennessee where she was a charter member and also a Sunday School teacher and for many years the church pianist. Survivors include one son, James Lawrence Walsh and wife Patricia, Kingsport, Tennessee; also a special friend and sister, Aunt Leola ?Lee? Crowder; Ralph Crowder who was like a brother; and a lifelong friend, Dr. Hal Smith and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Maxine Leffman Walsh will be conducted Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel at Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Hudson and Rev. Steve McCrady officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m.-2:45 p.m. prior to the services at the chapel. Graveside and Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Damascus, Virginia following the services. Active pallbearers will be Harry Walsh, John Muse, Morris Bury, Milton Carter, David Rash, Michael Chatterton, Brian Buchanan, Wayne Porter, Dean Maxwell, Dean Gentry, Ray Smith, Sam Taylor and Eric Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Lewis, Rick Stewart, Dr. James Hal Smith, Dr. Floyd Barker and Rock School of Damascus Class of 1942. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Johnson County Rescue Squad or the 1st District Volunteer Fire Department, Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee.
