Munsey Thomas Dickens Jr., age 61, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at the Genesis Eldercare, Long Green Center, Baltimore, Maryland. He was the son of the late Munsey Thomas Dickens, Sr. and Vada M. Maxwell of Cochranville, PA. Munsey was born in Banner Elk, NC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister: Maxie Snow Dickens. He is survived by seven brothers: Carl R. Dickens and wife Joanna of Kennett Square, PA; Billy W. Dickens and wife Annie of West Jefferson, NC; Jimmy R. Dickens and wife Mary of Cochranville, PA: Jerry D. Dickens and wife Frances of West Chester, PA; David C. Dickens and wife Crystal of Cochranville, PA; John R. Dickens and wife Wanda of Kirkwood, PA; Joseph M. Dickens and wife Ruth of West Grove, PA; one sister: Phyllis A. Britton and husband William J. of Parkesburg, PA; two daughters: Kim and Rhonda; and numerous nieces and nephews. Munsey was drafted seven days after graduating from Octorara High School. He served his country as a radio operator in Viet Nam. He is best remembered for a bust of John F. Kennedy which won first place at the Delaware Valley Art Show in 1965. It received National Wire Service and the high school received a letter from Robert Kennedy. Mr. Dickens was Pentecostal by faith and attended Full Gospel Bible Institute, Parkesburg, PA. He ministered to the sick and infirmed. Munsey liked to tinker on automobiles and he loved fishing. Two of his nieces: Vadia Hamm (Tommy) of Lansing, NC and Shannon Saucier of Lancaster, PA were often seen accompanying him. A service was held in West Grove, Pennsylvania. Funeral services for Mr. Munsey Thomas Dickens, Jr. will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 26, 2008 from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Pastor Roger Blevins officiating. Military graveside service and interment will follow in Phillippi Cemetery accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
