Otis Sluder, age 97, of 540 Sluder Road, Shady Valley, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2005 at the Life Care Center of Elizabethton. A native of Ashe County, NC, he lived most of his life in Shady Valley. Otis was a son of the late Amos L. and Abigail Greer Sluder and was a farmer and carpenter. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Victory Baptist Church. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Michelle Sluder and several sisters and brothers. Suviving are his wife of 69 years, Letha Sluder, five sons: Herbert Sluder and wife Betty of Winchester, VA, Alton Sluder and wife Shirley, Cline Sluder and wife Cathy, Curtis Sluder and Wife, Linda and Kenneth Sluder and wife Eula, all of Shady Valley; a sister, Edna Blevins of Shady Valley; ten grandchildren, Gavin Craig Sluder, Patricia Gayle Santiago, Patty Shoun, Tim Sluder, Jackie Sluder, David Sluder, Charlotte Berry, Leslie Hill, Kenny Sluder and Lisa Sluder. Ten great-grandchildren ande several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p. m. Wednsday, May 11, 2005 from Victory Baptist Church. Brother Eddie Porter will officiate. Music will be under the direction of Don McAllister. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2005 from the Gentry Cemetery in Shady Valley. Pallbearers will be Tim Sluder, David Sluder, Kenny Sluder, Daniel Morley, Andre Santiago and Michael Testerman. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p. m. Wednesday at the church prior to the services and at other times will be at the residence at 540 Sluder Road in Shady Valley. Henson Funeral Home is serving the Sluder amily.
