HERMES Patricia Gayle, 68, of Butler, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at home surrounded by loved ones. Beloved and cherished wife of Jerry Hermes Sr. for 49 adventure-filled years, Patricia enjoyed traveling throughout the country, seeing new sites and making new friends. A very active woman, she appreciated the outdoors and took part in kayaking, powerboating, hiking, water skiing, snow skiing, camping and bird watching throughout her life. She was also very creative and liked to cook up new dishes in the kitchen - a skill she happily shared with all of her children - and working in arts and crafts, with stained glass being her latest creative passion. She was born on August 12, 1946, to Harold and LaVerne McKune. She graduated from Lafayette High School and went on to take classes at the University of Kentucky. She worked at UK in the 1970s. After the family moved to North Carolina, she worked at UNC - Charlotte during the 1980s. Upon moving back to Lexington in 1989, she returned to UK and worked in the Education Department and then Administration. However, her best job was raising her three children and being a loving wife. Ever since retiring from UK in 1997, Patricia and Jerry have enjoyed living at Watauga Lake in the mountains of Eastern Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving sister Mary Joan, and her brother Garry Lee. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Jerry Jr. (Debbie Clamon), Kimberly (David Jenkins Jr.) and Karri (Brent Worrell); three grandchildren, Christopher, Savannah and Madeline; her brother, Timothy McKune; her brother-in-law Richard Steele; and several nieces and nephews.
