PPaul Samuel Gobble Jr, age 84, of 1144 Circle Drive, Mountain City, TN passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at his residence. Mr. Gobble was born on October 19, 1927 and was the son of Paul S. Gobble Sr. and Grace Goodman Gobble of Bristol, VA. He attended Virginia High and continued on to King College and Virginia Tech. Upon entering World War II he served in the United States Marine Corp in Iwo-Jima and Guam. After leaving the service he completed his B.S. degree in Business Administration at Northwestern University in Chicago, Il. From there he moved to Baltimore, Maryland and worked for Martin Marietta. This is where he met his wife of 60 years, Ramona C. Holtschneider. He also worked for the federal government as a contract negotiator for the Secretary of The Navy. After leaving the federal government he moved his family to Mountain City where he became co-owner of WMCT radio station. He was the organizer and president of Johnson County Housing Development Inc. Mr. Gobble served several terms as Alderman for The Town of Mountain City where he tirelessly worked towards a balanced budget without raising taxes for town citizens. He also served several terms on the Johnson County Planning Commission. Mr. Gobble was also President of Mountain Signals Inc. and co-owner of WETB Radio Station. Mr. Gobble enjoyed reading and collecting items of interest. He has served as a Sunday school teacher and a member of the trustees for the 1st United Methodist Church of Mountain City, TN. He is survived by 3 sons, Paul S. Gobble III and wife Donna; Richard A. Gobble; Jonathan E. Gobble and wife Teresa; 2 daughters, Karen G. Ward and Nelle G. Church and husband Darrell. Mr. Gobble was blessed with 5 grandchildren, Billy and Mark Ward sons of Karen G. Ward; Kendra Johnson daughter of Richard A Gobble; Ashleigh and Daniel Gobble daughter and son of Jonathan and Teresa Gobble. Mr. Gobble also has 1 step-grandson, Chase. He is also survived by sisters, Janice G. Harry, Bristol, TN and Nancy G. Holloway of Newton, NC and brother, Harold G. Gobble and wife Sandra of Richland, Michigan. Paul will be remembered by all who knew him as a good and Godly man with a generous heart. He will be missed by his family and all that knew him. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday December 17th 2011 at 10 A.M. from the Charles B. Hux Chapel of the Hux- Lipford Funeral Home with Pastor Buford "Boo" Hankins to officiate. Military Honors and Graveside Services will immediately follow from the Sunset Memorial Park to be accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Friday December 16, 2011 from 7-9pm from the Charles B. Hux Chapel of the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Sons and Grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. John Whitlock, Dr. Floyd Barker, Harvey Burniston, Bob Morrison, Tom Reid, and Richard Gobble.
