Peggy Ward Cress

Peggy Ward Cress, age 63, of 1824 Noah Path Street, Conover, NC, passed away Friday May 7, 2004 at the Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, NC following a lengthy illness. She was a native of Johnson County and was born August 24, 1940 to the late T.W. and Vada Dugger Ward. She was also preceded in death by two sisters: Beulah Stout and Pauline Stout and by four brothers: Frank Ward, Claude Ward, Woodrow Ward and Herman Ward. She was a graduate of Johnson County High School and worked in the dietary department at Lutheran Nursing Home in Hickory prior to her sickness. Peggy was a member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church in Mountain City. Survivors include one daughter, Donna Lipford and husband, Richard of Conover, NC; two sons: Jerry Cress and wife, Missy of Mountain City and Jeff Cress of Mountain City; four sisters: Ruth McAbee of Wachula, Florida; Willie Dickens of Mountain City, Jennie Steiner of Fort Myers, FL, Allie Eames of Aberdeen, MD; three half-sisters: Emma Mast of Mountain City, Wilma Arnold of Hampton, TN, and Ruth Dowell of Cincinnati, OH; two brothers: Tom Ward of West Grove, PA and Earl Ward of Waclula, FL; three grandchildren: Jennifer Lipford of Hickory, NC, Shelby Cress of Halls, TN and Dawson Cress of Mountain City; two step grandchildren: Dillon Cornett and Nathan Cornett of Mountain City; two great grandchildren: Tyler Arrowood and Alyssa Rogers and several nieces and nephews. Three special friends: Carol Booth, Jean Phillips and Doris Stout also survive. Funeral services for Peggy Ward Cress will be held at 2:30 P. M. Monday May 10, 2004 in the chapel of Henson Funeral Home. Rev. Ted Lewis will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 P. M. prior the service. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A. M. Tuesday from the Bakers Gap Cemetery. At other times, friends may call at the home of her sister, Willie Dickens, 981 Mill Creek Road in Mountain City at anytime.
