Ray Hammons

Ray Hammons, age 88, of 4799 Forge Creek Road, Mountain City, TN passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at the Johnson City Center following an extended illness. He was born June 4, 1919 in Shouns, Tennessee to the late B.C. Hammons and Ruth Parker Hammons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, June Hammons, who passed away in 1993; one sister: Nina Mae Hammons; two nephews: Worley Hall and David Hammons. Ray is survived by: One daughter: Janie Hammons of Bristol, Tennessee One son: Bill Hammons and wife Sylvia of Mountain City, Tennessee One granddaughter: Heidi Kerley and husband Don of Ellijay, Georgia One great grandson: Samuel Kerley of Ellijay, Georgia Two sisters: Faye Hall, and Anna Mae Knight and husband Jack of Mountain City, Tennessee One brother: Boyd Hammons and wife Bessie of Mountain City, Tennessee One niece: Ruth Ann Sajdak and husband Paul of Mountain City, Tennessee One great niece: Emily Sajdak of Mountain City, Tennessee Special Friends: Shelia Fenner, Ben Simcox, and Jeff Price Ray enjoyed listening to bluegrass and country music and visiting with friends and fellow cattlemen at the Abingdon Livestock Market. A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, July 12, 2007 from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel with Preacher Everette Morefield officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2007 from the Hammons Cemetery in Forge Creek, Tennessee. Active pallbearers will be Jack Hall, Don Kerley, Paul Jones, Paul Sajdak, Jack Knight, and Bob Trivette. Honorary pallbearers will be: Jeff Price, Ben Simcox, Joe Tugman, Frank Grayson, Bill Moore, John Stout, Jim Head, Walter Burl Simcox, Mike Shupe and Albert Brown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hammons Cemetery Fund, %Faye Hall, 185 Hubert Taylor Road, Mountain City, Tennessee 37683.
