Rev. James A. Smith, age 78, of 200 Georgia Street, Mountain City, Tennessee passed away on Friday, December 3, 2004 at his home surrounded by his family. A native of Mountain City, James was born on October 13, 1926 to the late William Hayes Smith and Stella Deal Smith. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Hannah Smith, Lelia Smith, and Carrie Lewis. James was a retired Sgt. First Class Army veteran having served in Vietnam. For his service, he was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal. He was also retired from IRC in Boone, NC, and was the Pastor of Zion Hill AME Zion Methodist Church. Survivors include his Wife, Dimple Smith, of the Home; 2 Sons: James A. Smith, II and wife Jennifer, Mountain City, and Samuel Smith, Cookeville, TN; 2 Sisters: Bobbie Smith, and Clara Smith, both of Mountain City; 1 Brother: John W. Smith, Mountain City; 2 Grandchildren: Julia Smith, and Will Smith, Mountain City; 2 Nieces: Sharon Jackson, and Lillian Easley; 2 Nephews: Steve Smith, and John Easley; Several Special Friends also survive. Funeral Services for Rev. James A. Smith, will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, December 6, 2004 from the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with the Rev. James Reddick and Rev. Ernest E. Widby, Sr. to officiate. Graveside Services will follow in the Holy Hill Cemetery, Mountain City, TN. Pallbearers will be: Ed Baker, Jackie Wilson, Richard Hagler, Rick Bellamy, Jimmy Anderson, Raymond Anderson, and Clifford Johnson. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Dr. Buddy Clayton, Earl Taylor, and members of Zion Hill AME Zion Methodist Church. A visitation will be held from 1 to 3:00 p.m. on Monday, prior to Funeral Services. At other times, friends may call at the residence, or at the home of a son, James, at 412 Columbia Street, Mountain City, TN, 37683.
