Rev David H. Cunningham

Rev. David H. Cunningham, age 81, of 267 Crestview Drive, Mountain City, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 6, 2005 at the Johnson County Health Center. A native of McDowell County, West Virginia, he was born on May 28, 1923 to the late David Howard and Myrtle Irene Cunningham. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by three sisters: JoAnn Cunningham, Mary Eileene Hicks and `E. Louise King and two brothers: John R. Cunningham and Donald L. Cunningham. David served for two years in the United States Army during World War II and retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post #61. David was former Pastor of Cobbs Creek Baptist Church, Butler, Tennessee, where he ministered for 17 and half years, former Pastor of Hatchbend Baptist Church of Hatchbend, Florida, where he ministered for 6 years and former Pastor of Butler Baptist Church, Butler, Tennessee, where he ministered for 4 years. David had retired from the Baptist Ministry, but continued to serve as Interim Pastor for Butler Baptist Church. He was a member of Cobbs Creek Baptist Church. He was a talented painter and wallpaper hanger and in addition David enjoyed gardening and fishing. David is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty J. Thomas Cunningham, of the home; five daughters: Joyce and husband Steve Bailey of Ft. Irwin, CA, Sharon and husband Mark Kophamer of Seward, NE, Jean Ann and husband Doug Poore of Bristol, Tn, Tammie Cornett and special friend Alan Lewis of Mountain City, Tn, Alice and husband Kenneth Johnson of Mountain City, Tn, two sons: David and wife Donna Cunningham of Panama City, FL and Stacy and wife Jessica Cunningham of Mountain City, Tn; three sisters: Juanita Gentry, Nancy Morris and Margarette C. Vaught; two brothers: Harry Cunningham of Alexandria, VA and Danny Cunningham of Mountain City, Tn; special nephew that was loved like a brother, Gene Hicks of Mountain City, Tn; 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews and a host of special friends also survive. Funeral Services for Rev. David H. Cunningham will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2005 from the Butler Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce Simcox and Rev. Alan Koch to officiate. Music will be under the direction of the Butler Baptist Church Choir and the Cobbs Creek Baptist Church Choir. Military Graveside Services and Interment will follow from the Acre Field Cemetery and will be accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Active Pallbearers will be Sons-In-Law and Grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Butler Baptist Church and Cobbs Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 2:00 p.m., prior to Services Monday, at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203 Vandilla Street, Mountain City, Tennesee 37683.
