R.H. "Dick" Poteet, age 78, of 1375 Huggins Road, Mountain City, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 23, 2006 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton, Tennessee. Dick was born on September 22, 1928 in Freeburn, Kentucky to Lucious F. Poteet and Lillie V. Trent Poteet. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters, Zella Hutto and Clovis Arnold. Dick was retired from the United States Navy, having served as Chief Petty Officer, serving during both Vietnam and Korea and Field Engineer with G.E. for 23 years. He is survived by his wife, Shirley A. Taylor Poteet of the home, and three sons; Rick Poteet of Mountain City, TN, Tim Poteet and wife Pam of Mountain City, TN and Scott Poteet and wife Sabrina, Knoxville, TN, one brother, Ralph Poteet of Mountain City, TN: one grandson, Cody Poteet of Mountain City, TN and three granddaughters, Beth Poteet of Mountain City, TN and Hannah Poteet and Jada Poteet of Knoxville, TN and several nieces and nephews. Dick was a member of the Liberty Christian Church, the Veterans of Foreign War, the American Legion and a former member of the Johnson County Honor Guard. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and coaching little league baseball. Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Johnson and Mr. Jim Hutchinson to officiate. Military Graveside Services and Interment will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. from the Phillippi Cemetery, Mountain City, Tennessee, accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Active Pallbearers will be: Mike Poteet, Russ Poteet, Shane Poteet, Travis Poteet, Cody Poteet, Jason Poteet and Frank Arnold. Honorary pallbearers are: Dr. Robert Snyder, Dr. Raina Sluder and Dr. Hare. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, prior to the services, from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home. At other times friends may call at the residence, 1375 Huggins Road, Mountain City, TN 37683. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Johnson County Rescue Squad and WINGS.
