R.H. Roark, age 65, of 22985 Hwy 88, Zionville, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at the Watauga Medical Center following an extended illness. A native of Ashe County, North Carolina, R.H. was born on May 22, 1939 to Gladys Shelton Roark and the late Alis Roark. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one sister, Lou McQuarry. R.H. was an Associate of Blue Ridge Paving Company. He was a member of the Evergreen Baptist Church and a Song Leader at the Church. R.H. is survived by his wife Virginia Carol Thomas Roark of the home; two sons, Ronnie Roark and wife Tammy of Mountain City, Tennessee and Michael Roark and wife Jamie of Beaver Dam, North Carolina; his mother, Gladys Shelton Roark; one sister, Mary Nix, both of Hudson, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Ryan Roark and Gracie Roark, both of Mountain City, Tennessee and Molly Roark of Beaver Dam, North Carolina and special Uncle, Vernon Shelton and wife Geneva of Sugar Grove, North Carolina. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services for R.H. will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 13, 2004 from the Evergreen Baptist Church with Rev. Ray Branch and Rev. Sam Icenhour to officiate. Music will be under the direction of the Evergreen Baptist Church Choir. Graveside Services and Interment will follow at the Snyder Branch Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be: Bob Lipford, Eddie Stevens, Bo Thomas, Jody Bumgardner, J.B. Shelton, J.C. Shelton, Earl Greer and Keith Phillips. Honorary Pallbearers are: Earl Bumgardner, Members of the Evergreen Baptist Church, Blue Ridge Paving Associates and Nursing Staff of the 3rd Floor West Wing at the Watauga Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 7-9:00 p.m. Thursday, August 12, 2004 at the Chapel of the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home. At other times, friends may call at the residence.
