Richard “John” Stout, age 82, of 607 Fairground Lane, Mountain City, Tennessee passed away Saturday morning March 20, 2010 in the Johnson County Community Hospital. He was the son of the late Grady Stout and Queen Wolfe Stout. John was a member of First Baptist Church in Mountain City. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, playing golf, and watching sports on TV but he was most passionate about his daughter Suzanne. He received the Johnson County Chamber of Commerce Small Businessman of the Year Award in 2007 for his City Shoe Store. Also, he was a member of the Jaycees, Lions Club and an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean War.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Suzanne Stout Jones.

 

John is survived by his wife, Betty Vaught Stout, of the home; one sister: Betty Walker and husband George of Kernersville, NC; several nieces, nephews and cousins and his loving and faithful dog Chester.

 

Funeral services and Masonic Rites for Mr. Stout will be conducted on Monday, March 22, 2010 at 3:00 pm from the First Baptist Church of Mountain City with Reverend Norman Reece, Reverend Ricky Campbell and Dr. Thomas Peake officiating. Active pallbearers will be Steve Arnold, Skip Wills, Joe Atwood, Kirk Walker, Roger Miller, Dick Grayson and Eddie Brooks. Honorary pallbearers will be James Lefler, Nelson Gray, Dick Wolfe, Coach Harold Arnold, Lewis Wills, Dick Pleasant, Fred Smith and Ralph Stout. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm at the church prior to the services.

 

Graveside services and Military Honors will be held and accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard in the Sunset Memorial Park of Mountain City, Tennessee following the funeral services.

 

At other times friends may call at the residence, 607 Fairground Lane, Mountain City, Tennessee at any time.

 

The family would like to extend a special thanks for the kindness and care given to Mr. Stout by the Johnson County Community Hospital ER Staff and Dr. James Shine along with Elaine Henley, Debbie Scott, Goose Arnold, Donna Arnold and all the many friends in John’s life.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
