Richard Carroll Walsh

June 11, 1941 — April 25, 2016

Richard Carroll Walsh, age 74, of 1900 Sprucy Lane, Mountain City, TN passed away Monday, April 25, 2016 at his residence. He was born June 11, 1941 to the late Carl Walsh and Ollie Furches Walsh. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Frank Walsh and two sisters: Virgie Stout and Lonita Owens. Richard was enlisted in the United States Army and served in Vietnam. He was a former police officer serving Grundy, Virginia and worked for United Coal Company. He was a huge Tennessee Vols fan. He also enjoyed fishing, hummingbirds, and gardening.

 

He is survived by two daughters: Melissa Gore and husband Mike of Riegelwood, North Carolina and Tamera Combs and boyfriend Allen Chafin of Mouthcard, Kentucky, three sisters: Ruby (Louise) Eller, Georgie Shoemate, and Janet Martin all of Mountain City, two brothers: James Walsh of Mountain City and Orville “Doc” Walsh of Grundy, Virginia, three grandchildren: Christopher Osborne, Karista Kinder, and Saishu Combs, and two great grandchildren: Zoey Kinder and Rylee Miller. Several nieces and nephews also survive and special friend Goldie DeHart.

 

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel with Rev. Michael Icenhour officiating. Military graveside with honors accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard will follow the service from the Rainbow Cemetery. Pallbearers are: David Shoemate, Bob Martin, Ronnie Justus, Ari Halberg, William Keys, and Steven DeHart. Honorary pallbearers are: Bill Justus, Sonny Porter, Spencer Shoemate, Eddie Cantrell, James Perdue, Misty Justus, Joyce Bendo, and Mike Gore.  The family will receive friends, Wednesday, April 27, 2016 from 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m.
