Obituary for: Robert "Nat" Ward Robert "Nat" Ward, age 88, of 1086 Crackers Neck Road, Mountain City, passed away Thursday, November 18, 2004 at the Mountain City Care Center following a lengthy illness. He was a native of Johnson County and was born April 27, 1916 to the late James and Maggie Wilson Ward. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Simcox Ward, who passed away March 17, 1994. Also by three sisters: Nell Ward, Lone Conville and Georgia Ward; two brothers: Jack Ward and Fred Ward. He was a World Ward II Veteran having served in the U. S. Navy and was a farmer and of the Baptist faith. Surviving are two brothers: Carl Ward of Elizabethton and Carter Ward of Los Alamos, New Mexico; five nieces: Norma Atherton, Nancy, Betty Zimmerman, Linda Young and Margaret Holland; five nephews: Jackie Ward, Pat Conville, Jim Ward, Berry Ward and Freddie Ward; two nephews and a niece by marriage, Ben Simcox, Mary Jean Goodwin and Joe Simcox. Funeral services will be held at 8 p. m. Sunday, November 21, 2004 from the chapel of Henson Funeral Home. Mr. Jim Hutchinson and Rev. Haskel Ingram will officiate. Music will be under the direction of Joe Simcox. Graveside services will be held at 10 a. m. Monday from the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Desi Ward, Barry Ward, Dale Phillips, Eddie Phillips, Tom Dickens, Jim Snyder , Dick Snyder, Harry Greene and Rick Westmorland. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Cress, A. D. Grindstaff, Roy Bartlett and the staff of Mountain City Care Center. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p. m. Sunday at the funeral home and at other times will be at his residence.
