Bob White, age 76, went home to be with the Lord on October 30th, 2010 from the Mountain City Care Center. Bob had a long and distinguished career in law enforcement, preaching and broadcasting. He most recently pastored Stateline Baptist Church in Laurel Bloomery, TN and at the Cove Creek and Middlefork Baptist Churches in Watauga County, NC. He was a longtime broadcaster and news director at WATA in Boone, NC. Bob broadcast the morning show on WATA and was the original voice of the Mountaineer on the ASU radio network. He received many awards for his broadcasting news work while at WJRI in Lenoir, NC and WTRC in Hickory, NC. Later in his career he worked at WMCT in Mountain City, TN. Bob served in law enforcement for several years in Watauga County, NC. He was born in Springfield, Ohio to the late Gertrude Carter and Samuel White. Bob was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mountain City, TN. In addition to his parents, a brother David Eugene White preceded him in death. Survivors are: Daughter: Janice Olsen, Spruce Pine, NC Son and daughter in-law: Kevin and Sue White of Gastonia, NC Four Granddaughters: Lindsey Hardy, Spruce Pine, NC Kayla Hardy, Marion, NC Katelyn and Mackenzie White, Cramerton, NC Great-Granddaughter: Hailey of Spruce Pine, NC A memorial service for Bob White will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 2, 2010 from Our Heroes Chapel of the Johnson County Funeral Home with Mr. Jim Hutchinson to officiate. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203 Vandilla Street, Mountain City, TN 37683 or the TLCA Mission Team, Whites Memorial Baptist Church, 129 Hanging Rock Road, Spruce Pine, NC 28777. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010 at the Our Heroes Chapel of the Johnson County Funeral Home.
