Rom Linnie Cornett, age 82, of 191 Stage Road, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at the Watauga Medical Center. A native of Watauga County, North Carolina, he was born on August 8, 1924 to the late James and JuneBelle Story Cornett. In addition to his parents, Rom was preceded in death by one daughter, Jean Rash; two sisters: Iva Lee Adair and Bina Harmon; four brothers: Andrew Cornett, George Cornett, John Cornett and Luther Cornett, one grandson, Paul Dean Rash and one great grandson, Camren Dishman. Rom loved being outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He also loved sports and was an avid Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs fan. He was a member of Mountain Dale Baptist Church. Rom was an Army Veteran of the paratrooper infantry during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Ella Hazel Johnson Cornett, of the home; four daughters and sons-in-law: Margaret and Bob Rubincan of West Grove, PA; Merlene Potter of Mountain City, TN, Reba and Tony Rash of Todd, NC and Linda and Marvin Hodge of Mountain City, TN; four sons and daughter-in-law: Robert Lane Cornett of Mountain City, TN, Gary Cornett of Wilmington, DE, Lester and Faye Cornett of Spokane, WA and Danny Cornett of Mountain City, TN; twenty one grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. Funeral Services for Rom Linnie Cornett will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2007 from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Rev. Eric Cornett and Pastor Mark Annas to officiate. The family will receive friends from 12-2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, prior to the Services, at the funeral home. Graveside Services and Interment with military honors will follow from the Sunset Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers will be: Joey Dishman, Anthony Rash, Michael Hodge, Marvin Hodge, Jason Stout, Kenny Price. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Dr. John Whitlock and Staff of Watauga Medical Center.
