Roscoe Lincoln Howard, age 85, of 665 Noah Snyder Road, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2004 following an extended illness. A native of Johnson County, he was born February 19, 1919 to the late Robert "Bob" and Susan Smith Howard. Roscoe was a retired farmer, enjoyed horses and was a member of First Baptist Church, Mountain City, Tennessee. He was a World War II Veteran having served in the United States Army and had earned the Bronze Star. Roscoe was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 6908 and the American Legion Post 61. In addition to his parents, Roscoe was preceded in death by three sisters; Lular Curd, Mae Woodards and Ellie Howard Price and three brothers; Dave Howard, Rector Howard and Luther Howard. Roscoe is survived by his wife Artanzy Woodards Howard of the home, five daughters; Jaunieta Howard, Eula Colson and husband Tom, Betty Howard, Teresa Parsons and husband Maurice, all of Mountain City, and Trula Ward and husband Paul of Butler, two sons; Franklin Howard and wife Janice of Mountain City and Loyd Howard of Kingsport, one sister; Mattie Price of Mountain City, twelve grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Roscoe Lincoln Howard will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 4th, 2004 from the First Baptist Church with Rev. Frank Johnson and Rev. Norman Reece to officiate. Military Graveside Services will be accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard from the Sunset Memorial Park following Services Sunday. Active pallbearers will be The Johnson County Honor Guard. Honorary Pallbeaers are Dr. Buddy Clayton, Attrie Stout and Barton Taylor. Family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Saturday, April 3rd, 2004 at the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203 Vandilla Street, Mountain City, Tennessee 37683. Friends may call at the residence at anytime.
