Ross Dowell, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated member of the community, passed away on August 3, 2025, at the Bristol Regional Medical Center. Born on June 9, 1942, in Johnson County, Tennessee, Ross lived a life rich in service and love, making an indelible mark on everyone he encountered.
For three decades, Ross owned and operated Dowell Electric from 1970 until 2000, providing reliable service to numerous families and businesses in the area. His commitment to excellence extended beyond his professional life; he served for 40 years as a deacon at the Nelson Chapel Baptist Church, where he was a respected spiritual leader. Additionally, Ross was actively involved with the Mountain Electric Cooperative, serving on its board of directors, where he worked tirelessly to improve the community’s access to electricity and resources.
Ross proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era from May 1965 to May 1967, embodying the values of courage and duty. His military service shaped his character and instilled in him a deep sense of gratitude for his family and the freedoms they enjoyed.
Of great personal pride were his beloved granddaughters, Faith Dowell and Savanna Dowell. Ross often expressed his desire to live long enough to witness their graduations, a milestone he was fortunate enough to see realized. They were truly the light of his life, and their achievements filled him with immense joy and pride.
In his leisure time, Ross had a passion for old cars, fishing, and collecting antiques, hobbies that brought him much joy and a sense of adventure. He was also a proud member of Taylorsville Masonic Lodge #243 F&AM, a testament to his commitment to fraternity and benevolence.
Ross is survived by his precious wife of 60 years, Frances Dowell; son, Stacy Dowell (Cassandra); sisters, Wilma Payne and Marjorie Farmer; brother, Russell Dowell; grandchildren, Faith Dowell and Savanna Dowell; as well as several nieces and nephews who cherished him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred R. Dowell and Nannie Simcox Dowell, whose legacy of love and integrity shaped the man Ross became.
